Lord's
Prayer |
| |
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Apostles' Creed |
| |
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come
again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Nicene
Creed |
|
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in
one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in
the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and
glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of
sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

How to Pray the
Rosary:
The complete rosary is
composed of fifteen decades, but it is divided into three distinct
parts, each containing five decades. The first part consists of
five joyful events in the life of Jesus and Mary, the second part
recalls five sorrowful events, and the third part considers five
glorious events.
We begin by making the
sign of the cross. Then recalling each event, we say the Lord's
Prayer, ten Hail Mary's, and the Glory be to the Father.
This completes one decade, and we say all the other decades in the same
manner, meditating on a different event during each decade. At the
end of the rosary, the "Hail, Holy Queen" may be recited.
The events (mysteries)
of the rosary are scenes form the life of Jesus and Mary. By
meditating on these sublime truths we come to a better understanding of
our religion: the Incarnation of the Lord, the Redemption, and the
Christian life, present and future.

Memorare |

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection
was left unaided.
Inspired by this
confidence,
I fly unto you,
O Virgin of virgins, my mother.
To you I come;
before you I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word
Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic
Church teaches, because you revealed them, who can neither deceive nor

Act of Contrition |

My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.

Examination of Conscience |
How have I shown my love for God and others today?
Do I make an effort to address God regularly in prayer?
How M I aware of others - my family, friends, coworkers?
Do I hold them in proper esteem?
Am I kind and fair in my relationships with others at home,
at work, at Church, everywhere?
Am I generous and giving or are my possessions of
greater importance than in my relationships?
Do I respect the things I own and the things of others?
Am I consistently honest with others?
Am I careful with their property and their reputations?
Do I worship God by going to Mass and taking an active
part in the celebration?

Prayer Before A Crucifix |
| |
Good and gentle Jesus,
I kneel before you.
I see and I ponder your five wounds.
My eyes behold what David prophesied about you:
"They have pierced my hands and feet;
they have counted all my bones."
Engrave on me this
image of yourself.
Fulfill the yearnings of my heart:
give me faith, hope, and love,
repentance for my sins,
and true conversion of life.
Amen.

Prayer of St. Francis of
Assisi |
| |
Lord, make me an instrument of your
peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Our divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

The
Road Ahead - Prayer of Thomas Merton
Taken from
Thoughts in Solitude
Copyright 1956, 1958
by Our Lady of Gethsemani |
| |
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the
road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am
following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope
that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I
know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I
may know nothing about it. Therefore, will I trust You always
though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I
will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me
to face my perils alone.

Prayer of Charles De Foucauld |
| |
Father, I abandon myself into your
hands;
Do with me what you will,
Whatever you may do, I thank you;
I am ready for all, I accept all,
Let only your will be done in me,
And in all your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Therefore, will I trust you always
though I may seem to be lost
and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Prayer of Saint Ignatius
Loyola |
| |
Take, Lord, and receive
all my liberty, my memory,
my understanding, and my entire will,
all that I have and possess.
You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
All is yours.
Dispose of it wholly according to your will.
Give me your love and your grace,
for this is enough for me.

Prayer of Saint Augustine
From the
Confessions |
| |
Late have I loved you,
O beauty ever ancient, ever new!
Late have I loved you.
And
behold, you were within,
and I without,
and without I sought you.
And deformed,
I ran after those forms of beauty you have made.
You were with me,
and I was not with you,
those things held me back from you,
things whose only being
was to be in you.
You called; you cried;
and you broke through my deafness.
You flashed; you shone;
and you chased away my blindness,
you became fragrant:
and I inhaled and sighed for you,
I tasted,
and now hunger and thirst for you,
You touched me;
and I burned for your embrace.

From the Breastplate of
Saint Patrick |
| |
Arise today
through God's strength to pilot me,
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's hosts to save me
from the snares of the devil.

Prayer of Pope John XXIII |
| |
O Lord,
Do not let us turn into "broken cisterns,"
that can hold no water.
Do not let us be so blinded by the enjoyment
of the good things of earth
that our hearts become insensible to the
cry of the poor, of the sick,
of orphaned children
and of those innumerable brothers (and sisters)
of ours who lack the necessary minimum
to eat, to clothe their nakedness,
and to gather their family together under one roof.

Prayer of Saint Anselm |
| |
O Lord, my God,
teach my heart where and how to seek you,
where and how to find you.
O
Lord,
you are my God
and you are my Lord,
and I have never seen you.
You have made me and remade me,
and you have bestowed on me
all the good things I possess,
and still I do not know you.
I have not yet done that for which I was made.
Teach me to seek you,
for I cannot seek you
unless you teach me
or find you
unless you show yourself to me.
Let me seek you in my desire,
let me desire you in my seeking.
Let me find you by loving you.
Let me love you when I find you.

Prayer of Saint Christopher |
|
Father, grant that I may be a bearer
of Christ Jesus, your Son.
Allow me to warm the often cold, impersonal scene of modern life
with your burning love.
Strengthen me by Your Holy Spirit to carry out my mission of
changing the world or some definite part of it for the better.
Despite my lamentable failures, bring home to me that my advantages
are your blessings to be shared with others.
Make me more
energetic in setting right what I find wrong with the world instead
of complaining about it.
Nourish in me a
practical desire to build up rather than tear down, to reconcile
instead of polarize, to go out on a limb rather than crave security.
Never let me
forget that it is far better to light one candle than to curse the
darkness, and to join my light, one day, with yours.
Amen.

Prayer of Saint Francis De

|
Have no fear for what tomorrow may bring.

Be at peace, then, and
put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

Prayer of Mary
Stuart, Queen of Scotland |
|
Keep us, O Lord, from all pettiness.
Let us be large in
thought, in word, and in deed.
Let us be done with
fault-finding, and leave off all self-seeking.
May we put away all
pretense and meet each other, face to face, without self-pity, and
without prejudice.
May we never be hasty
in judgment, and always generous.
Let us take time for
all things.
Make us grow calm,
serene, and gently.
Teach us to put into
action our better impulses, straight forward and unafraid.
Grant that we may
realize that it is the little things of life that create differences,
that in the big things of life we are as one.
And, O Lord God, let
us not forget to be kind.
Amen.

Prayer of John Cardinal Newman |
|
God has created me to do Him some
definite service.
He has committed some work to me
Which he has not committed to another.
I have my mission,
I may never know it in this life,
But I shall be told it in the next.
I am a link in a
chain,
A bond of connection between persons.
He has not created me for naught.
I shall do good - I
shall do His word.
I shall be an angel of peace,
A preacher of truth in my own place while not intending it,
If I do but keep his commandments.
Therefore, I will
trust Him.
Whenever I am, I can never be thrown away.
If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him,
In perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him,
If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him.
He does nothing in
vain.
He knows what He is
about;
He may take away my
friends.
He may throw me among strangers,
He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink,
Hide my future from me - still he knows what He is about!

Beatitudes |
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness'
sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute
you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on
my
account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in
heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who
were before you."
Matthew 5:3-12
